Frequently Asked Questions

Accommodation within Auckland is often a challenge, especially during peak periods. The date that we offer this accommodation to you is the time when there is most likely to be availability – so please do not wait too long with your booking!

The location is very central. It is ideal for those with an internship in downtown Auckland. You will also benefit from being close to the nightlife, shops and entertainment within the central city as well as the city parks – all a short walking distance. Furthermore, you have easy bus access to surrounding beaches and suburbs (Takapuna, Mission Bay, Parnell, etc.)

The accommodation provider charges this administration fee. Please note, that any housing option you choose has nothing to do with New Zealand Internships. We are here to offer suggestions, help you process the booking and support you if you run into any issues where possible.

The benefit of this accommodation is the flexibility. Upon arrival, if you are dissatisfied with the accommodation you have a number of options. It is possible to choose a short term contract or opt for the nightly rate. You will find that the nightly rate is cheaper than any other private room in the city.

If you are not happy with your flatmates, it is possible to request a different room but please know this is not garunteed and often comes with an associated extra charge.

If at any point you are dissatisfied with the accommodation or need something done, please contact the reception and nicely make your enquiry. Failing this, please feel free to contact us and we will get in touch with the managers to resolve the issue.

The student city accommodation option has the shared common areas of living room, kitchen and bathroom. If these rooms are messy or dirty it is not the fault of the accommodation – it is the flatmates! It is up to you and your fellow flatmates to keep these common areas clean. The apartment is not big, so any rubbish, dishes or junk is going to make the place look unclean. Also, flatmates that have recently left have a habit of leaving their unwanted items in the common areas – throw it away or keep it if it is useful. Feel free to contact reception if there is mould growth, or anything broken.

This all depends on the availability, but if you are arriving on the same day, this is much more likely to happen. Please understand that these are three bedrooms apartments with a maximum of 1 person per room.

Do not be worried if you are coming by yourself! We always request a room in an apartment with one of our other interns. This is not a guarantee, but it is likely to happen. Otherwise you will be accommodated among other international students. If you are not happy with your flatmates you can request to swap your room depending on availability.

There are a number of reasons why this accommodation is the most popular choice. Firstly, there is flexibility with regard to the booking – you do not need to sign a contract until you have seen the room and are satisfied. Secondly, the apartment is very social and you will be around other interns. Thirdly, the location is ideal for inner-city living.

Very soon after you have been successfully placed within your internship, we will send out an email with options for booking.

Intern Houses

Auckland is split into two parts by a bridge known as the “Habour Bridge”. On one side, we have the central city and on the other side is Auckland’s “North Shore”. Our Albany accommodation option will be on this “North Shore”. You will be living in a large house, complete with a big Kitchen and common living room. Use of the Washing/dryer machine is free.

This option is only recommended for interns doing an internship on the North Shore! A bus ride to the city centre takes around 1 hour (still not far if you were to compare this to say, London or Paris)  The Bus stops are a short walk (15-20min) and it is a short (5min) drive to the shops/supermarket. Wifi is not included in the rent (around $40 per month).

Details:

  • You will need to buy or bring your own sheets, blanket & pillow
  • Spacious apartment/house with private room
  • High likelihood of intern flatmates
  • Safe accommodation
  • Free Parking
  • Free use of washing machine and dryer

Location: North Shore
Rent: $210 per week
Admin fee: $100
Deposit: $610

Auckland is New Zealand’s most popular city and these prices are conform with market prices and are not regarded as by Auckland’s standards! If you are coming from a European country or the USA, please be aware of your currency’s strong current position against the New Zealand Dollar! If the prices of this option are out of reach, please consider the Student City Apartment as a cheaper alternative.

It is possible to leave the accommodation after your rental term. We suggest to sign your intial contract for a period of 4 weeks, to begin, and renew as desired.

Yes you can! A double apartment is only slightly more expensive than a single, so check the price guide. Please know that you will need to arrive and leave at the same time of the booking to make this an option.

As above, you can live in this apartment with one of your friends. Furthermore, you will also be very close to the Student accommodation where many of the other interns stay.

More answers to common questions

No. Our accommodation offerings are just recommendations and you are free to choose your own housing as you wish. Sometimes our offers are not suitable for your situation. In this case, it is possible to complete your own search. We are happy provide assistance and relevant web-links for this where required.

Recent years has seen an influx in overseas students, which has in turn driven up demand for student housing. Still, the price for student accommodation in New Zealand is comparable to other OECD countries. A quick comparison to that of Australia shows it is in fact more budget friendly – with shared rooms in Australia tending to be the norm rather than the exception.

The options above are those that we recommend. If you choose to find alternate accommodation our level of service will be limited.

In general, yes – but you will have to look at the specifics of the contract you’re signing. It is often possible to adjust your move-in and move-out dates prior to signing the contract, on arrival. Remember, it is always easier to extend a contract than prematurely terminate one.
