Hundreds of Satisfied Companies…Fast and Simple
The team at New Zealand Internships has a wealth of experience in placing interns. We work hard to understand the needs of both our interns and host organisations. Please have a read through our step-by-step guide to get an Intern. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to contact us.
Step 1: Assessing your Requirements
After filling in our website’s “Host an Intern” form, including position description, one of our experienced team members will get in contact with you shortly. At this stage you will have the opportunity to ask any questions you may have.
Step 2: Our Search
With your internship brief in mind and any additional information provided by your company, we will search our database and reach out to educational institutions to find a match that is mutually beneficial for both your company and the intern. Once the right match has been found, we’ll forward the prospective intern’s profile and other relevant documentation to you for your consideration. At this point, one of our team members will act as a mediator between your company and the intern. We’ll make sure both you and the intern have all the necessary information, every step of the way.
Step 3: Interview
Your contact person at New Zealand Internships will set up an interview for you with the candidate. It is possible for this to be done over the phone, Skype call or, in cases where the intern is in New Zealand, in person.
After the interview your contact person at New Zealand Internships will follow up with both you and the intern to see how things went and if there are further questions. At this stage, both parties will decide whether they wish to proceed.
Step 4: Internship Agreement
With both parties satisfied, we’ll put together an internship agreement to sign and formalise the internship between the intern and your company. This has been perfectly adequate for the several thousand internships we’ve facilitated over the last eight years. If necessary, additional contracts from the host organisation, such as employment agreements or confidentiality agreements can be included as required. To make things even easier, we use an electronic method for sending and signing contracts online.
In some instances an intern will also provide a contract from their University. NZI will assist with the completion of any necessary paperwork as required.
Step 5: Ongoing Support
We’ll support your intern from their very first day to their last. All pre-arrangements, including visa, accommodation and insurance are overseen by New Zealand Internships. Your intern will even meet our team at our office and take part in an orientation (Auckland-only) to ensure they are fully prepared for their internship and time in New Zealand.
During the internship we’ll follow up with your company to see how everything’s going. If it’s all going well we’re happy to stay in the background, but please know that we will always be available for support if needed.
We’ll also invite the interns out on social activities and weekend trips to help them make the most of their time in New Zealand, giving them a social network and support for the duration of their stay.
Step 6: Hosting your next intern
Many of our host companies find the New Zealand Internships’ program works so well that they wish to host interns year round. Before an interns leaves, we can organise for them to be replaced by another intern. In these situations the intern can hand-over their knowledge and some of the skills they have gained during their internship to their replacement.
Great! So you’re interested in having an intern come in and start adding value to your company.
The information listed below shows just how easy it is to begin doing so.
- It is at the host organisation’s discretion as to whether they would like to reward the candidate with a stipend. Bare in mind this will naturally make your position offer more attractive to the intern. However, in the cases where remuneration is not offered, candidates will be informed.
- All our candidates travelling to New Zealand will hold a valid visa. New Zealand Immigration offers Visa’s which allows students from all over the world to undertake a 3 to 12 month placement at companies across New Zealand. These Visa’s are only open to students who are required to complete a work placement or internship as part of their Higher Education course.
- For the duration of their internship, the candidate is expecting a real-life experience of what the job is all about. They expect to receive a reference letter and/or contact person following their internship, to append to their CV.
